MATERIA architectures & award

Exhibition MATERIA ARCHITECTURES
Ausstellung & Vernissage
Date: Tuesday 27.01. - Friday 30.01.2026
Place: ETHZ Hönggerberg – Building HIT, Foyer Level G
About the exhibition:
Building materials that can be found within easy reach or even directly beneath our feet offer us exemplary technical solutions inspired by ancient know-how, helping us to overcome the ecological, economic, and social challenges we face. Their use gives new meaning to the construction industry, promotes the development of local economic sectors, creates jobs, and re-anchors construction in the local environment.
Materia Architectures combines stone, earth, and plant fibers and focuses on the rehabilitation of our existing built landscape. This exhibition documents and analyzes the architectural, technical, and ecological characteristics of the 40 finalist projects for the materia award. It has already been presented in Paris, Marseille, Valence, Bordeaux, Le Mans, Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, as well as in Brussels, Lausanne, and even Beijing (further exhibitions will follow in 2026).
Materia Architectures is a co-production of Pavillon de l'Arsenal, Les Grands Ateliers, amàco, Les Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France and was jointly curated by Dominique Gauzin-Müller, architect and researcher, Yann Le Bihan, Les Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France, Louise Lemoine, Les Grands Ateliers, and Zoé Tric, amàco. It is co-financed by the Chair of Sustainable Construction at ETH Zurich, thanks to the financial support of many generous institutions such as the external page Ricola Foundation
